The Patrol Officer (Police Officer 1) supports students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors by monitoring activity on campus for the purpose of maintaining peace and enforcing laws and supports the college by ensuring a safe educational and work environment. Northwest TCAT Covington Campus is the home campus for this position. However, officers are occasionally required to perform duties and functions at other DSCC or TCAT campuses.&nbsp;

Title: Adjunct Instructor – Law Enforcement (Pool)
POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for delivering quality instruction in an equitable environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Teach courses via on-ground, online and hybrid or web-enhanced delivery modes as assigned. Work with course leads and/or program coordinators to ensure consistent and equitable student experiences. Utilize the College’s learning management system to provide course materials to students. Title: Temporary - Police Officer (Pool)
POSITION SUMMARY Under general supervision, performs a variety of police duties such as patrolling the assigned area(s) to detect/deter crime and arrest violators to ensure security and safety people and property.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Patrols the campus by foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle. Investigates suspected crimes, report findings, and arrest suspected individuals. Testifies in a court of legal proceedings. Investigates accidents involving persons or property, report probable cause of accidents, pursue an appropriate course of action, and ensure that all incidents and arrest activities are properly documented. Proficiently operates law enforcement equipment (including lethal and non-lethal weapons necessary in the performance of required duties). Keeps records and prepares reports (offense, arrest, fire system, emergency phones, alarm systems, and mechanical equipment). Provides escorts and/or makes bank deposits or special mail deliveries. Ensures traffic control and enforcement. Checks doors and locks and responds to lockouts. Identifies potential security-related conditions and takes the lead in problem-solving through partnerships to develop prevention strategies. Provides safety, crime prevention, and community policing information to contacts over the course of patrol duties. First responder for all emergency calls to include but not be limited to the following: alarms (fire, panic, holdup), hazardous material spills and leaks, traffic crashes, criminal activity in progress, assistance for injured/sick, and crimes in progress. May conduct photographing; conduct photo lineups and additional investigative duties as necessary. Develops rapport with the community. Performs field stops and interviews. May represent the department at college meetings or functions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS A high school diploma or GED
Current Tennessee Post certification or ability to obtain certification immediately upon hire
Valid driver’s license
Ability to pass a psychological examination and a medical examination
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS An Associate’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or related field
Prior law enforcement experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Good customer service skills. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population. Demonstrated self-restraint in challenging and/or difficult situations. Demonstrated problem-solving skills.

Identifies and reports suspected crimes, accidents or activities of a questionable/suspicious nature. Reports accidents involving persons or property, reporting probable cause of accidents, pursuing appropriate course of action and informing proper authorities as required. Provides security for special events. Writes citations for parking violations.
Provides direction and/or instruction to faculty, staff and students in unusual or emergency situations. Participates in campus training for emergencies and for law enforcement officers. Monitors classrooms, offices and buildings for safety and/or maintenance concerns. Maintains and utilizes security equipment. Maintains department records and prepares reports. May testify in court or during legal proceedings as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to work in varying conditions, including indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Good customer service skills. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Ability to occasionally travel throughout the service area as needed.
Rate of Pay: $18.00 per hour
Work Hours: Up to 28 hours per week. Shifts and campus assignments vary and are based on current need.

Job Summary
This is a part-time, temporary position working under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Public Safety. The Police Officer 1 investigates crimes and protects faculty, staff, students, visitors, property, and facilities. Provides other safety related services. Must be flexible to work different shifts if and when deemed necessary. 
Job Duties

<li>Patrols the campus/specific area by foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle/motorized conveyance.</li>
<li>Assures building security, traffic control, parking lot management, and patrol readiness for crime and hazards.</li>

Minimum Qualifications
<ul>
<li>Graduation from a standard high school with interest in radio operations.</li>
<li>Must be an active duty sworn law enforcement officer, retired, or recently separated sworn law enforcement officer.</li>
<li>Be able to work 20 to 32 hours a week.</li>
<li>Be able and willing to work flexible shifts.</li>
<li>NCIC certified.</li>
<li>Have knowledge of various methods of investigations.</li>
<li>Have knowledge of geographic areas of each campus.</li>
<li>Ability to ascertain facts by personal contacts, observation, and the examination of records.</li>
<li>Be able to explain and interpret pertinent provisions of laws, ordinances, and regulations.</li>
<li>The successful candidate must be P.O.S.T certified (Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission).</li>

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the Federal Communication Commission pertaining to transmitting and receiving messages by shortwave.</li>
<li>Knowledge of the geographic area.</li>
<li>Knowledge of the operation of radio transmitting and receiving equipment.</li>
<li>Ability to operate a short wave radio.</li>
<li>Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine proper course of action.</li>
<li>Ability to understand and follow instructions.</li>
<li>Ability to speak clearly with a well-modulated voice.</li>
<li>Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, students and other employees.</li>
