Job Synopsis

The Truck Driver maintains, loads, drives, and unloads MCC tractors and trailers and, as needed, MCC forklifts. The position also performs various material resources handling tasks.

Flexible for part time work status of half time or higher for interested candidates.

Essential: 
  • ​​High school diploma​.
  • Holds a Class A CDL (Commercial Driver s License).
  • CDL driving experience of a minimum 3 months-1year
  • Holds or has ability/willingness to attain a Forklift certification
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible and culturally sensitive.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Logistics ability.
  • Capable of communication with cell phones and maintenance of electronic truck logs.
Employment eligibility: Legally eligible to work in the U.S. MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check(s).
Preferred:
  • At least 2 years of CDL driving experience.
  • Diesel mechanic certification or specialized diesel mechanical training.
  • Effective communication leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities: 

Truck loading, driving, and unloading (75%). 

Forklift operation and Material Resource Handling (20%). 

Tractor and trailer maintenance (5%). 

Specific Tasks and Duties: 

Truck loading, driving, and unloading (75%). 

  • In collaboration with the Ephrata Material Resources Center (MRC) Warehouse Coordinator, load, drive, and unload trucks, including but not limited to the following: 
  • Maintain Motive elog system and documentation on semi-tractors. 
  • Load and unload shipments. 
  • Pick up and deliver material resources and items for recycling. 
  • Deliver and collect canning supplies and products and other material resource items including coordinating with freight haulers and volunteer drivers to and from multiple U.S. regions. 
  • Provide timely reports and documents to the Ephrata MRC Warehouse Manager and Canning & Trucking Technical Coordinator as needed and requested. 
  • Provide basic training in CDL driving & documentation for volunteer CDL drivers.  
  • Submit to random drug and alcohol testing. 

Forklift operation and Material Resource Handling (20%). 

  • Operate fork-lifts at the Ephrata MRC; at other MCC MRCs; and other locations (upon certification). 
  • Perform material resource handling tasks at the Ephrata MRC and other locations. 

Tractor and trailer maintenance (5%). 

  • In collaboration with the C&T Technical Coordinator, perform or arrange for MCC trucking fleet maintenance (tractors, trailers, and vehicles), including but not limited to the following: 
  • Mechanical maintenance of the fleet. 
  • Coordinate major repairs, purchases, and improvements to the fleet. 
  • Report accidents or unsafe conditions immediately to the C&T Technical Coordinator. 
  • Provide timely reports to the Ephrata MRC Warehouse Coordinator and C&T Technical Coordinator as needed and requested. 

Other duties as assigned temporarily. 

Supervision: This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities. Position collaborates with Canning staff, MRC staff, canning committees, and other people concerning trucking activities. 

Travel expectations: Extensive travel including day trips and 0 to 5 nights away per week with a total of 20 to 30 nights away per year. A typical five-day trip would be from Ephrata to Newton, KS, and return. There would also be many one-day trips. 

Physical Activity/Demands: 

  • Constantly moving about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another. 
  • Occasionally ascending or descending stairs/ladders or the like. 
  • Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time. 
  • Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds. 
  • Constantly operating machinery and/or power tools; operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment. 
  • This position is occasionally noisy, has poor ventilation, is in small and or enclosed spaces and may deal with hazardous conditions. 
  • Exposure to outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind in high or low temperatures. 

Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis.

Salary Details

Base salary: $24.28. Starting salary may be adjusted up to $26.97 based on previous experience.

-The Material Resource Center is located at 517 West Trout Run Road, Ephrata, PA. Ephrata (population 13,000) is located about ten miles from Lancaster city (population 55,000) which is more ethnically diverse and urban in character.
