Global Network Services (GNS) is responsible for the card issuing and merchant acquiring partnerships that comprise the American Express Network. GNS operates in 110 geographies and GNS partners issue over 60 million cards on the Amex Network.
GNS North America is focused on growing issuing partnerships that drive complimentary scale and relevance for American Express in the US and Canada. The GNS NA team manages a portfolio of existing bank partnerships (e.g., Credit One, Navy Fed, USAA) and cobrand programs (e.g., Macy’s, NASCAR, Square).
The GNS NA - New Business Development teams are responsible for signing new issuing partnerships with banks, brands and fintechs interested in launching card programs on the American Express Network. The Agile Partner Platform (APP) team - winner of the 2024 Edward P. Gilligan Award for Innovation - has end-to-end responsibility for building new partnerships across the fintech issuing ecosystem including strategy, pipeline, prioritization, pitches and contracting. The Senior Manager of New Business Development will be responsible for accelerating new business development activities with a focus on new cobrand programs and strategically adding providers of new platform capabilities (e.g., sponsor banks, processors, program managers). This person will partner closely with the Director of APP and GNS NA leadership team to cultivate and prioritize a robust new business pipeline, develop winning strategies to secure new partnerships, refine and deliver compelling prospect pitches and efficiently manage contracting with new partners. A successful candidate will have a strong will to win, be an effective listener and communicator, have the drive to establish and grow numerous external relationships, be genuinely curious about our business and that of our partners/prospects, and always uphold the Blue Box values.
Key Responsibilities
- Cultivate a robust new business pipeline through external relationships with existing platform partners, industry contacts, and trade events
- Drive prioritization through prospect assessment, a clear framework and consistent alignment with GNS NA leadership team
- Develop winning strategies to secure new partnerships and connect the dots across APP partners, GNS, and the Enterprise through research, relationship building and ideation
- Refine and deliver compelling prospect pitches by crafting a great first draft, and thoughtfully iterating and preparing with key stakeholders
- Efficiently managing contracting with new partners through effective negotiation with both internal stakeholders and relevant external parties
- Lead select industry, consulting and trade relationships to advance strategy, generate new business and enhance the Amex brand in Network Issuing.
Qualifications
- A strong will to win – once you understand the objective you develop winning strategies and execute with speed and resilience
- Business development/partnerships and negotiation experience, with a consultative approach to pursuing and securing large deals for an enterprise
- Knowledge of payments/card issuing preferred. Specific experience in the fintech space a plus
- Ability to support all aspects of deal negotiation, including strong financial acumen to generate and evaluate deal structures
- Track record as a strong performer who can inspire and develop relationships across a large, matrixed organization
- A drive to establish and grow numerous external relationships – you are excited and curious about new opportunities and ready to invest the time and energy to build great relationships
- Ability to balance multiple competing priorities that require engaging numerous internal and external stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred
Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
