R & D Engineer- Chemical Engineer

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a R & D Engineer- Chemical Engineer and Chemists to work in our Fuel Cycle and Technology Division. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Research Education Campus with every other Friday off.

As a member of the Fuel Cycle Science and Technology Division, you will contribute to delivering nuclear fuel cycle solutions that enable the deployment of advanced nuclear energy concepts through innovative aqueous and pyrochemical separations technology development and demonstration, nuclear material and isotope recovery and availability, waste and used fuel management, proliferation risk reduction, and the development of cutting-edge testbed environments. 

You will learn and perform research and engineering tasks associated with chemical separation technologies and equipment, modeling and simulation of chemical processes and separation flow sheets, recovery of rare earth materials, development and testing of iodine and krypton separation processes, operations of solvent extraction pilot plant facilities, characterization of molten salts, and conducting experiments to understand electrochemical processes, physical properties, and material interactions in a high-temperature molten salt environment. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Contribute to a range of nuclear fuel cycle design and development activities, with a focus on radiochemistry, material recovery, and aqueous and electrochemical separations.
  • Publish work in various customer-required reports and peer-reviewed journal publications.
  • Involvement in the preparation, peer review, and delivery of program plans, oral presentations, and other activities related to INL spent fuel programs.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or related degree program, or Masters degree in Chemical Engineering or related degree program, or PhD in chemical engineering, Chemistry, or related degree program. Must be able to work in a culturally diverse environment
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship. 


Job Information: 

  • The pay range for this position is: Level #430 ($63,528.00 - $130,284.00) / Level #440 ($75,804.00 - $155,496.00). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials
  • You are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
