Position Information

Hiring Department: Entering Student Experience (ESE)

Posting End Date: Open until filled.

Hours: up to 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Purpose of Position

Summary:The Manager of Student Programming and Engagement for the Entering Student Experience is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing engagement strategies for student programs within the organization. The role involves fostering relationships with students, coordinating events, and creating initiatives to enhance students' overall experience and involvement in the programs offered. The manager adopts a collaborative and data-informed approach to delivering engaging, innovative programs that reflect a commitment to equity and culturally responsive student programming to support the campus-wide culture of student belonging, engagement, and holistic student success. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a passion for student development, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.

Purpose:

Under limited supervision and with autonomy for the use of initiative and independent judgment, deliver student programs that engage students as co-creators and peer leaders in programs that support the Edge philosophy, including but not limited to supporting the first-year seminar course, supporting a range of student success programming, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Functions

Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Student Engagement to creatively evolve and implement engagement programs that serve UTEP's entering students.

Collaborates with program managers and coordinators to design engaging activities, workshops, and events tailored to student interests.

Collaborate with faculty to develop and implement peer leader policies and procedures.

Motivate, coach, and manage peer leaders to achieve goals. Provide clear performance expectations and give feedback.

Creates schedules and monitors workload for all peer leaders.

Develops, evaluates, and implements peer leader recruitment and hiring processes and procedures.

Builds relationships with students to understand their needs, preferences, and feedback regarding program offerings.

Lead delivery of core programmatic milestones, reviews, and processes for standardizing all peer leaders policies, procedures, and documentation.

Develop and maintain communication channels such as newsletters, social media platforms, and online forums to disseminate information and updates to students.

Develop and execute engagement strategies to increase student participation and involvement in programs.

Evaluate the effectiveness of engagement initiatives through feedback mechanisms and data analysis, adjusting as needed to enhance engagement levels.

Reviews professional and scholarly publications and literature to stay abreast of developments in higher Education. Participates in various professional trainings and conferences.

Teaches one course each fall and serves as backup faculty if appointed faculty cannot fulfill teaching assignments.

Demonstrates professionalism, flexibility, positive working relationships, excellent customer service, and the ability to make decisions and solve problems.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Performs other duties as delegated by the Director and Professor of Instruction for the Entering Student Experience.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelors Degree.

and

Experience: Three years of related experience or training in the essential duties and responsibilities or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree.

Experience supervising staff.

Experience working in cross-unit collaborations.

Previous higher education management experience.

Proven experience in student engagement.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with diverse student populations.

Creativity and innovation in developing engagement initiatives and events.

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, faculty, and external partners.

Knowledge of student development theories and best practices in student engagement.

Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing needs and priorities.

Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all students.

Ability to manage multiple projects at once.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
