Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) brings together American Express' merchant-and network-related businesses to enable a sharp focus on using the power of our network to provide unique value to all of our mutual customers. The organization manages the relationships with the millions of merchants around the world that accept American Express and runs the company’s payment network and manages bank partnerships globally. The mission of GMNS Operations team is to ensure comprehensive identification and robust management of operational and regulatory risk/changes across the business, having ownership of key processes and programs and supporting International Legal Entities in fulfilling their control and compliance obligations. Our team provides operational risk expertise to Front-Line and Control Management teams across business processes and services, to determine optimal risk mitigation in support of business growth initiatives, and maintain the alignment of risk reduction efforts through well-executed risk mitigation and remediation activities.

Key Job Responsibilities: 

This role will be responsible for supporting Global Merchant Network Services with ensuring a robust first line of defense for Privacy, with an effective privacy risk framework in place, timely and effective resolution of risks and issues, supported by an effective prevention framework to identify and eliminate their root causes.

This role will support the evolution of high-quality privacy risk management standards and practices across Merchant Services US, Network Acquiring Solutions and Global Network Services. The role holder will lead change management projects addressing new and/or changing regulation, as well as policy changes. They will also be responsible for increasing awareness of privacy standards, controls, regulations, and industry best practice.

The role will focus on achieving the following objectives:

  • Governance framework:  Ongoing high-quality Privacy risk management program and practices.
  • Privacy Consulting:  Providing general advisory support to the business, including input to PRSA development, Privacy Risk Assessment questionnaires, handling PII, Privacy Choice practices, etc.to prevent Privacy issues, via effective processes and controls design and execution.
  • Training and Awareness: Proactively engage and partner with stakeholders across the business to promote privacy by design, and educate teams on changes to laws, regulations and internal and external privacy practices.
  • Change Management: Responsible for building strong relationships with key stakeholders, including product & engineering teams, to ensure change management requirements are clearly articulated, plans are created, communicated and delivery of the plan stays on track, including status reporting etc. 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 3+ years experience in operational risk, compliance, program management, and/or process redesign.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of international, federal, and state laws and regulations regarding privacy and data security (e.g. CCPA and GDPR).
  • Experience in implementing privacy requirements into business practices (processes & procedures), with an understanding of processes and information flows for businesses that manage customer data and other confidential information.
  • Demonstrates a will to win, to deliver change in a challenging environment.
  • Proven experience of working in a legal & regulatory environment with tight deadlines, changing information and ambiguity. Knowledge of privacy regulation preferred.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills allowing for clear and appropriate messaging for multiple levels/audiences.
  • Problem solver and agile decision-maker with solid analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the ability to develop relationships with senior leaders and control/compliance stakeholders while appropriately influencing without direct authority.
  • Proven ability to adjust quickly to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity, and rapid change.
  • Understanding of the merchant acquiring or network business and related privacy landscape is an advantage.
  • Recognized specialist qualification in privacy or data protection is an advantage (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPM, CIPT).

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
