Compensation

The base hourly rate for this position is $37.50.

Position Overview

The overall goal is to achieve continuous improvement in areas such as safety, environmental, asset life and productivity through currently anticipating and then executing planned maintenance activities. Incumbent will manage the SAP work order system to ensure proper planning and scheduling of work; communicate with individuals regarding all steps of maintenance work, from developing a scope to final work completion. Incumbent will working from general verbal and written instructions and according to established operating procedures; he or she performs the following Essential Duties and Responsibilities (listed below) while cooperating with all levels within the organization in support of the four Johns Manville core values: People, Passion, Performance and Protection.

Plant Overview

The Phenix City, AL. facility swings between 24/5 to 24/7 with a variety of occasional alternate schedules to satisfy our customer’s needs; we are a manufacturer of a number of mineral wool insulation products including industrial boards of various densities, batts for use in commercial building applications and a wide range of pipe insulation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are presented as broad expectations for this role; understanding the major focus area within each will vary in support of the overall goals of this role:

Keep equipment and work areas clean and orderly at all times by following the principles of 6S Work in a professional manner with all employees Fully scope work to be completed, including parts needed, estimated hours (labor and machine), and impact to other work in the area Coordinate with contractors and vendors regarding outsourced work, including scoping of work, entering a purchase request, scheduling and on-site completion Coordinate, schedule, and act as the point of contact regarding maintenance support for engineering capital projects occurring within the plant Responsible for effective maintenance planning during plant and production line outages Responsible for overall record management of Work Orders, Work Notifications, SOPs, Maintenance Plans, and Maintenance Tasks Responsible for driving improvements in work order data recording, tracking, and reporting Responsible for continually improving PM frequencies and reviewing SOP documents for accuracy Coordinate with the storeroom department, ensuring proper and complete kitting and requisition of parts for work scheduled Plan and lay out work assignments to accomplish them with maximum efficiency Ensure accuracy of information on Work Request and convert Work Request to Work Orders in the SAP system, estimating time and resources needed for job completion Effectively work and communicate with all individuals including Leadership, Production, Warehouse, Purchasing, Engineering, and vendors as required in planning and scheduling work Maintain the Work Order Backlog in SAP and conduct long-term planning necessary to ensure work is completed at the earliest opportunity; Identify and take appropriate action on duplicate requests for work, incorrect work and work that has already been completed Provide cost estimates including labor, materials and outside services for work as needed Organize and lead routine maintenance planning meetings (weekly drop, daily supervisor, etc) Help ensure environmental and safety compliance for the facility Diagnose and solve complex problems Participate actively in all daily management standing meetings and other staff level meetings when requested Complete all duties as assigned with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship Perform other related duties as assigned; work and partner with Plant Leadership team to achieve business goals This role is primarily traditional workdays (Monday through Friday, less holidays), 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM; however, depending on projects and other situations, employee must be prepared to occasionally work other schedules as necessary to complete their tasks; maintenance outages may occur anytime 24x7 whether the plant is in operation or curtailed and the Maintenance Planner may be required to participate during these activities

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role has no direct reports, but indirectly helps guide internal maintenance department; may also be called upon to manage subcontractors or SMEs from other JM facilities

Education and/or Experience and Skills

  • Associate degree or comparable training, preferably in business or a technical field
  • Minimum five years as a lead mechanic
  • SAP Work Order module experience
  • Ability to manage and support multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must have the ability to work with and influence a multi-discipline team and management with a demonstrated capability to implement plans and follow through with sustained execution, meeting project milestones in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated capabilities in working collaboratively with internal and external resources
  • Must possess good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated drive and initiative to complete assigned tasks and investigate and seek out improvement opportunities
  • Thorough knowledge/understanding of Mechanical Systems (Solid)
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety Local/State/Federal rules/regulations (Solid)
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills (Solid)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (Solid)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment (Solid)
  • Ability to interface with all levels of the organization, both internally and externally (Solid)
  • Ability to understand business principles (Solid)
  • Other Preferred Skills / Experiences:
    • Lean and Six Sigma experience strongly preferred
    • Experience with AutoCAD or Visio software
    • Experience with ISO or other highly structured business operating system models
    • SAP or other ERP system experience a plus

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • APICS Certification a plus

Physical Demands

Ability to reach all work areas in the plant (i.e. climb ladders, negotiate catwalks, handle heights to 50 feet, etc.), to lift twist and turn up to 50 lb. (i.e. open and close large valves, inspect equipment, and nonemergency equipment as needed.

Work Environment

This job is in an industrial, manufacturing environment. Employee will have a workspace in the maintenance office, but will spend on average 30% of their day in the plant. The job requires working frequently around and with heavy machinery with moving mechanical parts, and mobile equipment. The environment is not climate controlled and employees must be able to work in environments that may be extremely hot and humid or cold depending upon the operation and the season. Walking surfaces can be wet, dusty, and uneven.  Areas of the building where work must be done have high noise levels, vibration, and/or fumes. Some working areas contain the presence of airborne particles which can irritate the skin or eyes. Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment which includes safety toed shoes, ear protection, eye protection and in certain areas may be required to wear dust masks, gloves, respirators, or head protection.
