Internal Auditor
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Internal Auditor will increase the value of services, ensure stronger compliance with regulations and policies, and reduce company risk. The Internal Auditor will be given the authority to discover opportunities for improvement and drive enduring change. The position will report directly to the CEO and CFO, who will assist as necessary in helping the role to make a real and lasting difference in our business operations.
- Conduct periodic and recurring audits in and order of priority/frequency that matches our relative risk of harm (or opportunities for reward) economically, legally, and in terms of reputation as a preeminent organization.
- While conducting such audits, prepare and refine audit programs, policies, and procedures to design a system that has an enduring positive impact for future auditors. (Build an enduring audit function.)
- Communicate audit findings and recommendations for change to the CFO and other stakeholders.
- Perform financial and operational reviews to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures and identify potential fraud, waste, or improper accounting and documentation areas.
- Identify areas/activities requiring audit review through observations made during the course of audit assignments.
- Obtain an understanding of the control systems for each auditable area by reviewing policies and procedures, communicating with staff, and observing processes.
- Design audit programs and perform audits using standard audit techniques that adequately test the effectiveness of controls, compliance with established policies and procedures, and compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
- Prepare and maintain completed audit work papers, documenting the basis for the recommendations made relative to the audit assignments.
- Perform reviews in a thorough manner and propose meaningful recommendations.
- Assist in the development of risk analysis and annual audit plans.
- Complete assignments efficiently and timely with minimum interference to operations.
- Attend quarterly Compliance Committee meetings.
- Attend quarterly Board Audit, Compliance, and Personnel Committee meetings and report findings as appropriate.
- Coordinate and assist CFO and other financial leaders in assuring a successful annual external audit process.
- Communicate concerns, potential control compliance, or staff concerns to the CFO or CEO quickly.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a major in accounting or finance, or equivalent education/experience in bookkeeping and/or quality control.
- Ability to successfully operate computer programs, including database applications, spreadsheets, and word processing
- Ability to work effectively, independently and manage assignments in a fast-paced environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to maintain appropriate independence in thought, judgment, and reporting while always reflecting and faithfully implementing the philosophy and directions of one’s leaders.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of the organization’s records and systems
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sedentary work: must be able to perform computer work for six to eight hours per day, either standing or sitting.
- Must be able to file and retrieve documents from filing cabinets and storage area, and lift/carry and maneuver and maneuver boxes/files weighing up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to work hours beyond regular business hours, depending on operational needs.
