The Global Merchant Services (GMS) Pricing team is responsible for the single largest source of American Express’ revenue: Merchant Discount Revenue. The team works closely with multiple business partners to determine the ideal pricing structure to encourage merchant acceptance of American Express, while striving to improve coverage and merchant satisfaction. Ultimately, we drive merchant revenue and profit growth through customer-centric pricing principles, more flexible pricing architecture and innovative pricing solutions.

How will you make an impact in this role?

The Director of Merchant Pricing, Centralized Planning, Regional & Centralized Client Group (RCCG) and Merchant Acquisition (MA) is responsible for leading U.S. Pricing strategic planning activities, as well as developing pricing strategy and financial analyses for regional U.S. merchant relationships and merchant acquisition.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to gain deep knowledge of the Merchant business. This role has significant exposure to senior leaders across GMS and the Blue Box. The Director should be a dynamic individual who can work closely with senior leaders and has the right ambition to drive change.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of four in charge of managing strategic planning activities and developing pricing strategies for key strategic U.S. merchants and acquisition targets
  • Coordinate centralized planning processes for U.S. Pricing, collaborating across multiple teams and developing frameworks that drive decision-making
  • Manage key compliance-related support activities including ORE mitigation efforts and definition of critical processes
  • Manage key U.S. Pricing-driven strategic initiatives and programs, as well as ad hoc senior leadership requests
  • Design and implement industry-wide pricing strategies based on business and financial objectives, market and competitive analyses, and pricing capabilities
  • Drive pricing strategy across all deal sizes, ensuring alignment with company goals, key performance indicators, and constantly evolving market dynamics
  • Present regularly to senior management and cross-functional partners, detailing key initiatives and the financial impact of pricing decisions
  • Own cross-functional relationships across Merchant Acquisition, Client Management, Finance, Legal, and Operations to drive alignment on deals and strategic pricing initiatives

Minimum Qualifications

  • 6+ years of proven experience in management consulting, investment banking, corporate strategy, pricing strategy, strategic financial analysis, or related experience
  • Strategic thought leader with the ability to work through unstructured problems and develop clear action plans
  • Program/project management experience with a high attention to detail
  • Proactive leader that can seek out new opportunities, drive projects, navigate ambiguity and develop creative solutions with minimal guidance
  • Proven track record as a people leader with a passion for coaching and developing people
  • Strong aptitude for data analytics and demonstrated ability to develop sophisticated financial models to draw value-added insights from large amounts of data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as experience leading discussions with Senior Leaders to facilitate decision-making and influence without authority
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, which places a premium on driving results 

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
