POSITION: Director of Adult Education Center

REPORTS TO:  Superintendent of Schools/Deputy Superintendent/Executive Director of School Leadership

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: The Director of Adult Education is responsible for overseeing and developing comprehensive adult education programs within the school district. This role involves strategic planning, program development and implementation, oversight, and management of resources to meet the diverse educational needs of adult learners in the community. Additionally, the Director oversees data collection, outcomes, and measures for programs and provides supervision and leadership for staff development.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • Proven track record in strong instructional leadership focused on student-centered learning
  • Extensive knowledge of adult education programming for diverse learners and learning styles
  • Experience growing and managing credit diploma programs
  • Ability to use data effectively to determine appropriate pathways and programming
  • Adept management of various programs and staff
  • Successful engagement and collaboration with community partners and families
  • Expertise in English as a Second Language (ESL) programming

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Extensive instructional experience in urban/multi-cultural settings and cultural responsiveness
  • Knowledge of and experience with the opportunities and needs of adult learners
  • Provides strategic planning, program development and oversight for adult education; Manages all aspects of programming and facility
  • Develops, plans, evaluates and implements goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for educational programs in collaboration with community and workforce partners
  • Oversees the collection, compilation, and analysis of data and the preparation of a variety of complex reports, statements, and communications
  • Oversees student engagement, recruitment, intake, orientation, and enrollment management
  • Evaluates instruction and programming; Collects and analyzes a variety of information relating to student success and operational efficiency; Develops action plans and recommends corresponding program operational changes
  • Establishes partnerships with community organizations
  • Develops and coordinates strategies in collaboration with internal and external partners to integrate systems of operations to support student success in programs
  • Provides grants management and participates in grant writing
  • Provides leadership and direction for effective and efficient allocation of physical, financial, and human resources.
  • Oversees assigned budget in compliance with fiscal policies, procedures, guidelines, and rules of funding sources and state and federal regulatory agencies
  • Strong and collaborative leadership with an honest, transparent, and inclusive style that supports high student outcomes and educational excellence
  • Demonstrated knowledge and effective use of technology in instruction, management, and communication
  • Record of success leading and motivating adults (as a director, chair, coach, or administrator) and students
  • Knowledge of pedagogy for development of curriculum and assessment that supports student learning
  • Persistent use of data and researched-based focus on student achievement
  • Demonstrated equitable leadership practices that impacted instruction, culture, and climate
  • Knowledge of all federal and state mandates and regulations
  • Demonstrated skill in diverse staff recruitment, development, supervision, evaluation, and retention
  • Ability to develop the professional capacity and practice of school personnel to promote student achievement
  • Outstanding and visible communication skills with the ability to foster strong relationships with all members of the school community (students, teachers, families, staff) and community at large to advance the school’s mission and vision
  • Demonstrated experience building partnerships and resources for a school and a willingness to work with various community partners
  • Knowledge of financial management and ability to manage school operations and resources
  • Ability to inspire excellence in others and hold staff accountable for student growth, academic results, performance, and culturally responsive practices
  • Five (5) years of successful teaching experience
  • One (1) year of successful experience as an assistant principal
  • One (1) year of successful experience as a building principal, preferred

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  Connecticut certification in Intermediate Administration and Supervision (092) is required.

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary is in accordance with the Hartford Principals’ and Supervisors’ Association’s 2024-2025 Schedule for twelve-month positions: Director, Salary Range of $142,054 to $154,648.
