Communications and Marketing Manager (One Year Term Role)

The Communications and Marketing Manager for Harvard Public Affairs and Communications (HPAC) will lead department marketing initiatives for community programming & public engagement programs to increase awareness among key audiences, promote the department’s programs and offerings, increase program and event participation from local communities and maintain a strong brand identity both internally and externally. The Communications and Marketing Manager will work in conjunction with colleagues from across the department and University.

 

Position Description

  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Assist in developing and implementing comprehensive marketing strategies and campaigns to promote the Harvard Ed Portal and HPAC-led programs, initiatives, and events. Including creating and executing marketing plans, managing digital marketing initiatives, print collateral and event calendars, and direct mail campaigns.
  • Content Development: Oversee the creation and distribution of engaging and informative content across various platforms, ensuring consistency with Harvard’s brand and messaging.
    • Managing and writing content for community-facing websites and social channels with current programming and event information, third-party event calendars and newsletters.
    • Manage the schedule and editorial process and writing content for internal and external publications.
    • Manage vendors and consultants to advance key initiatives and execute specific tasks including collateral materials development and printing.
    • Adhere to Harvard's brand standards and ensure all marketing materials are aligned with university visual and content guidelines.
    • Manage and advance awareness and understanding of the Harvard Ed Portal brand  through the development and maintenance of specific brand guidelines; develop and maintain Ed Portal information sheets, reports, and other Ed Portal branded collateral.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with HPAC public affairs colleagues and other departments, such as admissions, alumni relations, to align marketing efforts with institutional goals. Work with members of the Community Programming team to create content for reports, presentations, and other materials.
  • Digital Marketing: 
    • create user-engaging content to ensure visibility and strong attendance at Ed Portal events;
    • oversee the production of a weekly email newsletter and targeted communications using email marketing;
    • develop a digital media and content strategy based on evaluation of user and audience analytics for the Harvard Ed Portal and related Harvard community outreach initiatives.
  • Performance Metrics and Data Evaluation: Track and report on marketing performance metrics, using data to adjust strategies and improve outcomes. Identify target audiences and market trends, analyze findings, and provide insights to refine marketing strategies.
  • Budget Management: Assist in managing the marketing budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to meet objectives.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and must have 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Must be proficient in PC and/or Apple operating systems
  • Must have experience using CRM tools
  • Must have experience with a social media content management platform (for example, SproutSocial) 

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of ASANA a plus
  • Familiarity with Drupal-based CMS a plus
  • Proficient using the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with web analytics Google Analytics
  • Must be proficient in creative/design programs
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented
  • Strong project and time management skills and the ability to independently guide projects from inception to completion
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with multiple internal stakeholders
  • This role requires excellent communication skills, strong analytical abilities, and a collaborative mindset
  • Creative, innovative thinker, action-oriented, versatile, ability to adapt in dynamic environment, resourceful and honest, team player

Work Format Details

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
