We are searching for an experienced Accountant III (Sr Accountant)
Hybrid - This role is open to candidates within Indianapolis or South Bend. 
 

Position Summary:

The Accountant III is a senior-level professional responsible for managing complex financial tasks, providing strategic financial insights, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records and reports. This role requires extensive experience and expertise in credit union operations, as well as the ability to lead and mentor junior staff, contribute to high-level financial planning, and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

·         Advanced Financial Recordkeeping:

o    Oversee and ensure the accuracy of all financial records, including transactions related to member accounts, loans, and investments.

o    Prepare and review complex journal entries and reconciliations.

o    Participate and on occasion lead the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring compliance with credit union policies and procedures.

·         Comprehensive Financial Reporting:

o    Prepare detailed and accurate financial statements and reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements specific to credit union operations.

o    Key participant in collaborating and participating in internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

o    Analyze financial data and trends to provide strategic insights and recommendations to senior management.

·         Compliance and Internal Controls:

o    Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and accounting standards specific to Financial Institutions.

o    Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls and procedures to safeguard member assets.

o    Identify and resolve discrepancies and issues in a timely manner, ensuring the financial integrity of the credit union.

·         Support and Collaboration:

o    Collaborate with senior management and other departments, such as lending and member services, to ensure accurate financial data and resolve any issues.

o    Provide expert support and assistance to the accounting team and other stakeholders as needed.

o    Lead special projects and initiatives to improve financial processes and member services.

·         Leadership and Mentorship:

o    Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to Accountant I, Accountant II, and other junior accounting staff.

o    Conduct training and development sessions for new hires and existing staff, sharing knowledge and best practices.

Knowledge/Skills:

·         Expert understanding of accounting principles and practices specific to credit unions.

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

·         Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

·         Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

·         Excellent self-motivation with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

·         Demonstrated leadership and mentorship abilities.

Minimum Requirements:

·         Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.

·         5+ years of experience in accounting or a related field.

·         CPA or CMA certification preferred

·         Experience in a credit union or financial services industry is strongly preferred.
